The human foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles and tendons.  Between your two feet, those 52 bones comprise about 25 percent of every bone you own, so that’s a lot of opportunity for things to go ouch.  The ball of your foot fits easily in that category since it carries so much of the load and with every step you take, you’re pushing off quite a bit of weight.

A common name for ball of foot pain is Metatarsalgia.  It usually presents as pain, the second to fifth ball of the foot pad of the foot can be found in isolation or more near the big toe. It is usually caused by too much pressure on a longer period. Metatarsalgia shoes can be chronic or recurrent and often not covered by wearing good causes – such as tight shoes or shoes where the toe box is so tight, that is excessive pressure on the ball that are too high heels.high or engaging in an excess of high impact activity can also bring it on.  Add to that, our foot’s fat pad thins out as we get older which increases the likelihood of pain developing there. 

Metatarsalgia can make walking difficult and hurt like the dickens but you have the power to change that. Make sure your footwear isn’t forcing your foot into constricted positions and look for a wide, high toe box to ensure your foot is most comfortable.  Also, consider buying some metatarsal arch inserts or full-length arch insoles especially made for metatarsalgia.  The arch pads are extremely affordable (under $10) and are certainly worth their weight in gold.  Over the counter full-length metatarsal orthotics offer better stability and though they are pricier at around $60, it’s definitely money well spent.

Don’t live with painful feet, attack the pain with the proper tools for the job.  The balls of your <b > Feet will thank you.
